Senior Financial Adviser / Director

Matt Nicholls

Qualifications: Bachelor of Applied Finance, Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning), Diploma of Financial Services (Banking) and a Cert IV in Finance & Mortgage Broking. Completion of the latest FASEA Financial Adviser Exam and Kaplan Ethics course

I’ve been a Financial Adviser for 12+ Years coming into the industry straight out of University following in my father’s footsteps who was also a financial adviser. During my time as an adviser, I started mainly with superannuation and insurance advice though over time as I have picked up more clients and growing with my existing clients, I have become a holistic adviser where I now see most clients who are either working towards retirement or already retired.

I don’t have a typical client I like the variety of dealing with people from all walks of life in various jobs and life stages. Through this I have been able to expand my knowledge base and now on a daily basis I deal with anything from someone starting out working, to a deceased estate and everything in between. Given its my own business I’m fortunate that I can select the clients I work with, my ideal clients are just good people, as that’s who I want to spend my time with.

My advice style is generally quite positive and relaxed. I don’t like the hard sell, the over complex nature of advice or the doom and gloom outlook. I much prefer working with clients through the issues they are facing and letting the advice & the strategy do the work. I find most clients once they understand the reason for the advice, how it benefits them and the amount they will save/make are more than happy to go ahead, the most common remark “why didn’t I do this sooner”.

If you don’t leave the meeting understanding exactly what is happening and why it’s happening then I haven’t done my job correctly. I like to try and keep things simple, I don’t believe complexity necessary means better. There is a place for it though most clients I deal with prefer a simplified and easy to manage method. In providing advice this way I have been able to grow the business significantly over the years through referrals from existing clients. I find it easier to refer someone when you know exactly what the person is doing and how they are doing it.

Outside my work life I have a son Leon with my wife Michelle. Weekends consist of family events, playgrounds and outdoor adventures with them. Also love going to the gym and then walking my two dogs at night.

Associate Financial Adviser

Alexander Kaminski

Qualifications: Bachelor of Business (Finance), Bachelor of Business (Management of Information Technology), Diploma of Financial Planning. Completion of the latest Financial Adviser Exam & Kaplan Ethics course.

I have worked in financial services for 6+ years across a variety of roles, joining the industry straight out of University. I’ve have worked on both sides of finance, the client facing side and then also on the product side, so am fortunate to have seen how both sides of the finance system come together.

I currently work closely under Matt, progressing towards becoming a fully qualified financial adviser with only the completion of my provisional year remaining. I look forward to getting out there so chances are we may be in contact in one form or another.

A day for me could range anywhere from sitting in on client meetings to back-office administration and anything in between. Outside of work, I enjoy getting active and spend most of my nights at the gym.

Client Services Manager

Judy Nicholls

I have been working for Matthew since June 2020 helping him with his office administration on a part-time basis. I probably should also let you know that I am his Mum. When I first started working for Matt we were working in our small office in Mawson Lakes and then moved into our current offices at Highbury in 2021.

I previously worked for my husband who is a mortgage broker helping with his office administration and computer work. Unfortunately this lasted a short time as we found we saw too much of each other, so I started to look for a change outside of our home/office.

When Matt first offered me this position I was very green and needed a lot of training as I hadn’t had much to do with computers since I was in my late 20’s. Matt was very patient with me and has helped me to become a lot more confident and now I’m able to do most things he asks of me.

A typical day at the office for me would involve making phone calls to Superannuation & Insurance Companies and being on hold for long periods, preparing Reviews for Clients, scanning documents and of course filing.

Matt is a wonderful boss and I enjoy spending extra time with him that wouldn’t normally be possible if I didn’t work with him.

Outside of my work life I am a Mum of 4 Children who are all grown up now with their own families and I have 7 beautiful Grandchildren. On my days off I am very often babysitting the Grandchildren so their Mums can go to work and this is something I love to do. My interests are my family, holidays, shopping, going out for dinner, going to movies and musicals, listening to music, floristry and I especially love the beach and watching the waves crash.

Paraplanner

Trudy Oakes

Qualifications: Diploma of Financial Services (Financial Planning)

My experience within the financial planning industry is more than 30 years. I have previously worked in many financial planning firms in various roles including that of being an Adviser. As the newest recruit to the Wealth-IQ team, I joined in April 2021 as a Paraplanner and this is how I have come to work for Matt as his paraplanner.

As such, my role is to assist Matt in the preparation of Statements of Advice to assist clients to achieve their financial goals.

The greatest part of working in this industry is the diversity of the clients you get to work with. This means that I get to enjoy developing great relationships with clients whilst assisting them in their journey to help them meet their retirement planning goals.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my three boys and family. My interests include cooking, gardening, and travelling.

Secure your financial future, today.
